Insulin Resistance Course for Acupuncturists

Insulin Resistance/Metabolic Syndrome

Thu, 04/11/2013 - 6:00am
With Mark Costello, L.Ac.

Thursday Evening, April 11th, 2013

 6:00 – 10:00 pm  4  CEU/PDA credits

Insulin resistance may be the most prevalent chronic disease of our time.  The list of signs and  symptoms that can occur with insulin resistance is a list that looks like the typical patient load of most acupuncturists that I know:  Infertility, migraine headaches, high blood pressure and fibromyalgia all have a common thread in that they can all be caused by a continuous condition of insulin resistance.  This seminar will describe the mechanism behind insulin resistance and what signs and symptoms indicate its presence.  The symptom picture associated with insulin resistance will be catagorized in terms of TCM diagnosis and then we will discuss clinical strategies for combating insulin resistance using lifestyle change, acupuncture and herbal medicine.

Seminar Goals & Objectives:

After taking this class you should understand: How blood sugar is regulated // The disglycemia spectrum from Hypoglycemia to Type II Diabetes // The effects of hypoglycemia // Insulin Resistance // Blood sugar crash // The effects of insulin resistance on the brain // The effects of insulin resistance on sex hormones // The effects of inflammation on insulin resistance // Hidden causes of inflammation
